Summer 2023

If you choose to study in Cologne this summer, you will participate in an experience that goes beyond textbooks and lectures. The city is blessed with a vibrant culture that offers many opportunities for social activities. Summer in Cologne is full of exciting and varied events that will leave you with unforgettable memories. Here are a few of the many social activities you can look forward to.

Music festivals

Attending one of Cologne’s many music festivals is a must if you love music. Cologne hosts numerous festivals and concerts, hosting various artists and providing events for all musical tastes. Alone or in company, these festivals are a unique experience not to be missed.

Sport events

One thing that really stood out to me was the city’s love for sports. It’s amazing how many outdoor sports clubs and friendly games there are to choose from. I personally love playing basketball, even if I am very bad at it, but there’s something for everyone, whether you’re into volleyball or Ultimate Frisbee. Spending an afternoon sweating on the field and getting to know your teammates is such a great way to stay active, make new friends, and really soak up the Cologne atmosphere.

Parks

What impresses me most about Cologne are the beautiful city parks. Whenever I need a break from my hectic life, I take a walk in the Volksgarten, the Stadtgarten or the Rheinpark and enjoy a quiet picnic or a pleasant walk in nature. Exploring the many walking and cycling routes, I always discover new hidden gems. It is so nice to see people enjoying various activities such as having a picnic, playing volleyball, dancing or listening to music.

In general, everyone has a clear idea of how to spend the summer, whether it be by a pool or lake, in Cologne or somewhere else. For me, it means spending happy and unique moments with the people I love most and I wish you all the same.

Cologne is a very central city that gives you the possibility to move easily to other cities, states or countries. With the right advance notice, you can organise trips to the rest of Germany or outside. If preferred, Cologne still offers a lot to suit your taste, so don’t be afraid to try.
