8 Countries in 12 Days

As an international student currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Germany, I’ve always had a deep passion for travel. The thrill of exploring new places, meeting diverse people, experiencing different cultures, and, of course, tasting local cuisines drives me to wander whenever I can. Before my most recent adventure, I had already visited 14 countries around the world. But this time, I decided to embark on a whirlwind journey across Europe—covering 8 countries in just 12 days. It was a fast-paced, exhilarating trip that left me with memories I’ll cherish forever.

Starting Point: Munich, Germany

My journey began in Munich, a city I’ve come to know well during my studies in Germany. Munich is a city that beautifully blends tradition with modernity, and its central location makes it an ideal starting point for a European tour. With my backpack ready and a heart full of excitement, I set off on what would become an unforgettable adventure.

First Stop: Prague, Czech Republic

The first destination was Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. Known as the „City of a Hundred Spires,“ Prague is a place where history is etched into every corner. The city’s stunning architecture, from the majestic Prague Castle to the iconic Charles Bridge, captivated me. The cobblestone streets and the rich cultural vibe made me feel like I had stepped back in time.

Vienna and Salzburg, Austria

Next, I traveled to Austria, visiting Vienna first. Vienna’s elegance and charm are unmatched; the grand palaces, beautiful parks, and the ever-present sounds of classical music create an atmosphere that is both relaxing and inspiring. I particularly loved the Schönbrunn Palace and the St. Stephen’s Cathedral, where history and art converge in the most beautiful way.

From Vienna, I made my way to Salzburg, a city that is as picturesque as a postcard. Surrounded by the Alps and famous for being the birthplace of Mozart, Salzburg’s quaint streets, and baroque architecture were a joy to explore. The views from the Hohensalzburg Fortress were breathtaking and reminded me of why I love travel so much.

Italy: Venice, Rome, Florence, Milan, and Ventimiglia

Italy was the next country on my itinerary, and it did not disappoint. My journey through Italy was a whirlwind of experiences.

  • Venice: The city of canals is just as enchanting as you’d imagine. Navigating the waterways and getting lost in the maze of narrow streets was a unique experience.
  • Rome: A city where history comes alive. Visiting the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and the Vatican City was like walking through a history book.
  • Florence: The birthplace of the Renaissance, Florence’s art and architecture left me in awe. The Florence Cathedral and the Uffizi Gallery were highlights of my visit.
  • Milan: Known for fashion and design, Milan’s modern vibe contrasts beautifully with its historical sites like the Duomo di Milano.
  • Ventimiglia: A small town near the French border, Ventimiglia was a peaceful retreat after the bustling cities, offering stunning coastal views.

Monaco and Nice, France

Leaving Italy, I headed to Monaco, the glamorous city-state known for its casinos and luxury yachts. The opulence of Monaco was a stark contrast to the laid-back charm of Nice, my next stop. Nice, with its beautiful beaches and vibrant old town, provided a perfect blend of relaxation and cultural exploration. Strolling along the Promenade des Anglais with the Mediterranean breeze was a refreshing experience.

Barcelona, Spain

From France, I made my way to Spain, with Barcelona being the highlight. Barcelona is a city that pulses with energy. The unique architecture of Antoni Gaudí, especially the Sagrada Família and Park Güell, left a lasting impression on me. The lively streets of Las Ramblas and the rich history of the Gothic Quarter made Barcelona one of my favorite stops on this journey.

Lyon and Paris, France

Returning to France, I visited Lyon, known for its culinary delights and historical landmarks. Lyon’s old town is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and exploring it was like stepping into a different era.

Next, I arrived in Paris, just as the city was buzzing with excitement for the Olympics. While the crowds were larger than usual, Paris retained its charm. From the Eiffel Tower to the Louvre, every corner of Paris exudes art and culture. Even with the hustle and bustle, I found moments of peace along the Seine, taking in the beauty of the city.

Final Stops: Brussels, Belgium, and Amsterdam, Netherlands

As my journey neared its end, I traveled to Brussels, Belgium. Known for its waffles, chocolates, and the iconic Atomium, Brussels offered a blend of history, politics, and gastronomy.

The last stop was Amsterdam, Netherlands, a city known for its canals, museums, and vibrant nightlife. Amsterdam’s relaxed atmosphere was a perfect way to end my whirlwind tour. Biking through the city and visiting places like the Anne Frank House and the Van Gogh Museum were highlights of my visit.

Reflections on a Whirlwind Adventure

Traveling to 8 countries in just 12 days was a fast-paced, exhilarating experience. I visited multiple cities in a single day, but the rush didn’t diminish the beauty and uniqueness of each place. Every city, every culture, and every meal added to the richness of the experience. This journey taught me valuable lessons about the diversity of Europe, the importance of stepping out of my comfort zone, and the joy of making memories that will last a lifetime.

This adventure was more than just ticking off countries on a map; it was about connecting with different parts of the world, learning new things, and growing as a person. I’m grateful for the experiences and the memories, and I look forward to my next adventure, wherever that may be.
