Me and Summer

For me, summer is a synonym for beach, swimming, holidays, etc., but this year, summer has a different meaning for me, since I am spending it in Germany for the first time.

First of all, I never believed I would feel 30º degrees in Germany, so it was a shock when I checked my weather app and I saw 30º+. I started thinking, What should I do? Stay at home to hide from the sun? Meet my friends and enjoy this crazy event that is the heat in Germany?

And so, I started to search for what to do in the summer in Germany. Here are some things that I experienced:

Swimming

As I said before, for me summer is all about swimming, so I started to look for options to swim. I found out so many lakes and pools all around Darmstadt!

So one day, I packed my bag with food, sunscreen and a towel and met my friends at a lake. It was definitely a great experience! We could jump from this platform, we could swim around, and we could just lay in the grass. There were also some volleyball fields where we could play.

What I was not expecting, definitely, was swimming with ducks next to me. And the plants inside the water. That was definitely weird for me. But it was so refreshing that I just wanted to be inside the water!

Cinema

When the weather is not good enough to go to the lake, but it’s still hot, I go to the cinema!

Lately, some great movies are coming out, and they normally have student discounts, so I don’t miss one! You can take your snacks and just enjoy the AC from the theater!

Of course, going to art galleries and museums is also an option!

Picnic

Something that I and my friends have been doing since spring is going on picnics! It’s so nice to just sit in the grass, share food and play some games! It’s so much fun, and Germany has so many nice parks that you should visit! But be aware of some animals…

Still searching…

I am still searching for more things to do!
But I wish I had more options related to water, like an aquapark, a pool, or even a beach. But I will keep looking!

For now, just drink lots of water and use sunscreen!
