WELCOME TO KAMP-LINTFORT

Kamp-Lintfort is situated in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia just a hop, skip and jump away from the Netherlands – or to be more exact: less than 30 km away. The city’s residents enjoy the peace and quiet away from the big metropolitan hubs like , and .

Kamp-Lintfort is not a big city, but its districts are rather scattered, separated by green meadows, fields and forests. North of downtown, you’ll find a large wooded area perfect for taking long walks.

But there’s also a lot to discover in town. Kamp-Lintfort had been a mining town for almost 100 years, during which time housing developments were built for the workers and their families. The Friedrich Heinrich Estate is one of the best known. In the , you can learn how the “Kumpel” (friendly term for miners) lived together with their families around the year 1910.

The former on the outskirts of town is much older than the miners’ estates. Today it’s a museum which draws numerous visitors each year. Most tourists come in the spring and summer when the beautiful Baroque terraced gardens are green and in full bloom.

If you keep your eye out, you’ll notice how the look of the city changes as you walk through town. Next to the miners’ estates, which were built over the course of many years, there are high-rises dating back to the 1970s right next to buildings in the latest architectural styles, like the “EK3” shopping mall.

Such modern trends are integrated in the . The futuristic-looking building was opened to students and professors in 2014. Many students come to Kamp-Lintfort because the university of applied sciences is equipped with the latest technology and offers special degree programmes which are rarely offered at other higher education institutions.

LIVING IN KAMP-LINTFORT

You will find the city’s compact size a big advantage in the centre of town. If you live in a student hall of residence, all you have to do is cross a small bridge and you’re already on the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences campus. If you cross the street and walk a bit further, you’ll reach downtown Kamp-Lintfort.

And if you go in the opposite direction, you’ll quickly reach Pappelsee (Poplar Lake) where many residents go to relax. There are several paths around the lake that you can walk or bike along. In the summer, you can have a picnic there with friends or go sunbathing, but unfortunately lake swimming is not allowed.

For that purpose, the city built a large recreational pool adjacent to the lake. It’s called the “Panorama-Bad” and contains several indoor and outdoor pools. In addition to the swimming and diving pools, they also have beach volleyball courts and a ping-pong table.

When the weather is too cold for swimming, you can go to the “Slotracing & Tabletop Center” where you can take a few laps around the model racetrack. You’ll be surprised at how many adults like having fun being a kid again.

After such excitement, you can satisfy your appetite at one of the various restaurants and bars.
