Target group
The Master’s in Ethnology/Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Tübingen teaches cross-cultural skills as well as extensive knowledge of South and Central Asia. The programme includes regional-specific seminars, professional-practical courses, language lessons and tutorials to consolidate ethnological theories and concepts. As part of a mobility semester, students have the opportunity to study in a country of South or Central Asia, carry out their own research or gain professional experience. The Department of Ethnology supports the stay through contacts with institutions in the regions, through cooperation agreements with universities, if necessary also through integration into research projects of the department. The Department of Ethnology of the Asia-Orient Institute is based on internationally recognised teaching requirements and is associated with a number of international universities, e.g. in Azerbaijan, Georgia, India, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Pakistan. The areas of South and Central Asia are supplemented by research and lectures on Africa and the Near East. Tübingen has an outstanding ethnological library, which mainly contains literature on the content and regional focus of the department.
