Annotation

The degree course "European Studies: Politics – Law – Society" deals with today's Europe, which represents a special political construct. Because politics takes place simultaneously in the nation states, regionally below the nation states and supranationally at EU level above the nation states. The examination of this multi-level system and thus the interaction between nation states and the European Union as well as its effects on European societies are the focus of the degree course. This orientation focuses on a strong social science component, primarily in the disciplines of political science and sociology, as well as insights into the history, geography and culture of Europe. In order to analyse the approach of other disciplines with social science theories and methods, the degree course teaches the tools needed to understand how politics, law and society evolve. The interdisciplinary core area of the degree course deals with European interdependencies, development processes, current trends and perspectives on Europe. Basic historical, legal, cultural and linguistic knowledge enables the students to analyse and classify the complex issues of Europe independently and critically. This idea of fundamentals plus specialisation is reflected in the structure of the entire Bachelor's degree course.
